The Diary of An African Hub Manager is not your ordinary book about innovation ecosystems. The book combines my experience working in the African innovation ecosystem for the past ten years and scientifically proven methodologies for building robust innovation systems. Less has been told about grassroots innovation ecosystems in Africa. Sometimes, it is from someone who lacks local context and understanding, hence detachment from reality on the ground—most of what I know about innovation processes in Africa I had to learn difficulties. I had to pick information here and there, hoping to get something concrete along the way. I don’t want others to go through that painful path, “Via Dolorosa”, to understand African innovation systems and innovators. This book shares practical stories, including lessons learned working with different ecosystem movers and shakers in Africa; academic institutions, investment agencies, research institutions, development partners, governments, corporations, and innovators. Only an intense flame can make fine steel. What I have gone through, the tools I had to adopt, and the people and organizations I worked with along the way shaped an exciting story of someone who navigated an ecosystem that is unknown of its whereabouts. The book uses simple, well-articulated language with artistic diagrams to explain complex innovation concepts. I’m not claiming to be an expert on the topic, but if you want to listen and learn about the innovation ecosystem in Africa from the frontline practitioner, then this book is what you are looking for.
